Finch Hattons, named after the fastidious English aristocrat who brought royalty to the bush, is a 35 acre luxury award winning camp lodge. Like the real Denys Finch Hatton, brought to fame by Robert Redford in the movie "Out of Africa", the lodge named after him puts style and sophistication above all else.
Set at the foot of the Chyulu Hills in Tsavo West National Park, this immaculate venue offers impeccable eco-friendly opulent luxury and comfort, dressed with a very colonial elegance. The Lodge is very authentic, with an unfenced perimeter. Lions, buffalos, elephants, giraffes, plains game (including lesser kudu) all casually come and go at their leisure. The grandeur of Finch Hattons cannot be overstated, with Mozart playing on an antique gramophone, five course meals elegantly set with cut crystal, and faultless service - all right in the rough mystery of the real African bush.
Accommodation at Finch Hattons consists of: The Lodge is made up of very large thatched-roofed luxury safari tents, accommodating up to 50 people. The tents have elegant deluxe beds and all that would be expected from the finest room in a five star hotel, including a supply of electricity, a fully stocked mini-bar, en-suite facilities, wash basin, brass fittings and spacious slate-walled shower room, complete with hot and cold water. The tents all have a clothes rack, wooden Swahili chest, bookshelves and an antique writing desk, and the most wonderful panoramic views of the surrounding springs and forests, with a large deck balcony with chairs, tables and a daybed.
The Lodge has an elegant all-day bar, a restaurant and a comfortable secluded lounge. There is a vast library of books and a superb range of classical music- which includes Denys Finch Hatton's favorite Mozart pieces. There is a shaded swimming pool which is gloriously surrounded by indigenous trees. A wine cellar boasting the best in French, Californian and South African wines to round off your dinner. A wonderful gift shop for buying souvenirs, and a 4-hour express laundry service. Dinner is something of a production, being a formal 6-course meal served in the main dining area.
You can enjoy game drives throughout the park, provided in safari vehicles, with a professional driver guide. Take Sundowner's in the nearby picturesque Chyulu Hills admiring the breath-taking sunset with the magnitude of Kilimanjaro in the distance. We also arrange optional bush breakfasts on the same range of hills with incredible views of the plains. The National park is famous for its vast herds of elephants and its proximity to Mt. Kilimanjaro. Other trips further afield, include Lake Jipe or the historic Tsavo Rail bridge- scene of the famous "Man Eaters of Tsavo" story.
