Tanzania holds the largest concentration of wildlife and approximately 25% of the country’s land is used as preserves and national parks. National parks include the renowned Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti National Park, and the Gombe National Park, a well known site where Doctor Jane Goodall studied chimpanzee behaviour for many years. Kilimanjaro National Park offer visitors various hiking trails up to the magnificent snow-capped Kilimanjaro mountain peaks.
There are beautiful lakes in Tanzania such as the immense Lake Victoria, and Lake Tanganyika, well known for the unique species of fish present in its waters. Canoeing on the lakes is a splendid way of encountering wildlife up close and having a broader spectrum of the glorious landscape. Keen sports fishermen have an abundance of sites along many parts of the coast and can be rewarded with spectacular record catches of marlin, tuna, and swordfish that is possible at the world famous Pemba Channel. Tanzania has many marine sanctuaries which are home to thousands of species of fish, incredible coral reefs and fascinating marine mammals such as sharks and dolphins.
