Joy's Camp

Joy's Camp is located at a serene oasis in Shaba National Reserve (314kms from Nairobi). The location is built on the site of Joy Adamson's tented home. The camp overlooks a large natural spring where elephants and lion battle each other for water. Herds of buffalo and the rare desert species of Beisa Oryx, Reticulated Giraffe and Grevy's Zebra are also seen in the area. The landscape is freckled with springs and rocky river gorges.

The accommodation is ample, providing enough accommodation to host a large party of guests at a time. 10 canvas bedrooms are raised off the ground with breathtaking views of the surrounding hills. There are 3 spacious en suite twin tents, and a further 7 en suite double tents. Tents are furnished with Boran/Somali cloth design, handmade glass and the ambient fabrics of the local nomadic tribes. The colors and finishing gives the camp a luxurious and comfortable feel. Tents have private verandas, where spectacular views across the undulating plains provide guests with picturesque sunsets. Guests are immersed in nature: the sights and sounds of the bush are an ever-present phenomenon. The cuisine at Joy's Camp is traditional, sumptuous Northern Italian food, prepared from the Cheli family cook book.
