Shompole is located in a private and secluded nature conservation reserve on the edge of the Nguruman Escarpment in southern Kenya, overlooking the vast plains and volcanic hills of the Great Rift Valley. It is 120km south of Nairobi on a 140 000-acre Shompole ranch.
Each room is designed to harness the colours and textures of the surrounding natural landscape. The design combines a variety of white quartz stones, pale thatch, polished fig wood and smooth white walls that give it both a unique contemporary style and a touch of the African bush. Water is a main feature of the property flowing through each room and collecting in private cool pools where one can peacefully enjoy the expanse that stretches into the horizon.
Accommodation at Shompole consists of:
Each tented room provides a very spacious and shady oasis in this arid environment. It allows privacy, comfort and relaxation of mind. Each room has its own cool pool, and informal sitting area, a bathroom with a view and a specially designed canvas and netting tent that includes vast windows and a high-canopied roof.
The main lounge and dining area consists of a high thatch roof, the ridgelines of which emulate Mount Shompole over which it looks. Various levels accommodate seating areas and meals are prepared using the finest fresh ingredients and are served at the main dining table or can be enjoyed in the privacy of guests’ own rooms or perhaps seated by the poolside tables under the stars.
