On the Northern Shores of the mystical Lake Naivasha in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, you will find one of Kenya’s most wonderful hidden treasures – Olerai House. The magical ochre-red country home of Olerai, with its grounds covered in wondrous flora, and set amongst yellow acacia trees and purple jacaranda, is the ideal destination to answer the call of Africa.
The shores of Lake Naivasha provide calming breezes while the ever-present Mount Longonot, a dormant blue volcano, whispers in the distance. Spend your first days in Africa in this exotic part of the world, where there is the authenticity of the true African experience, supported by the luxury and comfort of a fine home-style accommodation. Set in the centre of its own private game sanctuary, at an altitude of 6000ft, Olerai is free of malaria.
Accommodation at Olerai House consists of:
With six very chic double rooms, Olerai House offers superb accommodation, catering for a total of twelve people. Each room has en-suit facilities, and is magnificently furnished in a traditional Swahili style with subdued relaxing tones and natural materials. Local art adorns the walls, and fabrics are brilliantly bright and vibrant. Each room has been individually altered to be distinct, while the wonderful scent of mixed fresh flowers, home-style baked biscuits and pungent natural soap make each room equally spectacular and very welcoming.
Meals are something of an affair at Olerai House. Organic farm grown vegetables, picked fresh from the Villa’s gardens, fresh bread and pasta, delicious lamb, lake fish, tropical fruit and Olerai's speciality cheese and ice-cream. There are wild animals and plenty of birdlife in the surrounding plains and woodlands. Watch while zebras and antelope gather to drink at a local waterhole near to the house while giraffe snack on the leaves of the surrounding trees.
Plenty to do with romantic African Gondola cruises, bird walks in the Game Sanctuary, Mountain biking, hiking in the nearby hills, enjoying the library of books on the estate, or feel at home at Sirocco House’s pool and barbecue facilities.
But be as active or relaxed as you like. Curl up with a good book or unwind on the huge day bed under the flame tree or slump the worries of the complex world away down by the cushioned logs. You could enjoy Golf, fishing, rock climbing and horse riding nearby, which can all be arranged at an extra cost. Organised excursions by car or plane can take you to the pink lined shores of Lake Bogoria, watching millions of flamingoes, where we serve poached egg breakfasts cooked in the hot steam jets bubbling out from the lake.
