Lake Baringo is situated in the northern Rift Valley, Kenya, and is 200 kilometers from Naivasha. The lake can be reached directly from Nakuru by car or bus.

The area is home to a vast variety of marine life and bird species, and fishing is mainly practiced by the Njemps community as a source of income. The Njemps village community offer cultural insight into their way of life by way of tribal dancing and crafts. The Njemps tribe is the only rural tribe in the area that farms with cattle, and fishes for a living. The surrounding environment is arid with red soil and has sparse vegetation, however it is a good spot for picnics and just to sit and inhale the natural beauty of the area. Lake Baringo is migration territory and there are over 400 different species of birds that can be spotted. The lake is also home to other wildlife species such as crocodile and hippo. Boat trips offer superb viewing opportunity. Eco-tourism is an integral part of educating the local villagers, and there are many community projects currently operating in the area.

Lake Baringo is truly, although harsh, a beautiful area with volcanic scopes that stretches over the vast plains, host a diversity of wild and bird life, and is an extraordinary location for being close to nature.
