Two cottages, each with a private veranda and stunning views of Mt. Kilimanjaro await you at Makoa Farm. A guest house is suitable for families with a comfortable en suite guest bedroom in a colonial style farmhouse. Some foods are produced directly from the farm, delightfully prepared and brought to your plate. Meals are sumptuous home-cooked farm meals. The farm-feel is wonderful for kids, with various farm animals around to feed and pet. Bordered by two rivers, to farm plays home to many species of birdlime, monkeys, small antelope and nocturnal game.

Nearby, Machame Gate and the spectacular rainforests on the mountain's lower slopes give you glimpses into an uninhabited, unspoiled world beneath the canopy of trees. Horse-back riding in the foothills of Kilimanjaro are relaxing and supremely scenic, with panoramic views of the mountain and the vast African plains that stretch out immeasurably. The horses are warm blood, with some Arab and some thoroughbred and X, and are all ridden with bitless tack in a loose rein and relaxed style. Safari packages include up to eight consecutive days of horse-back riding through different areas, including: the vast indigenous forests of the Kilimanjaro Reserve – a lush world of exotic scenery; the West Kilimanjaro Wilderness, a mixture of open grassland and thorn bush savanna with plenty animals to spot along the way; riverside camp, which gives you the chance of searching for big game, with frequent spotting of elephant herds; the north camp ride will take you through vast plains with abundant herds of Eland, and sometimes herds of up to 200 elephants, spotted hyena, cheetah and leopard are also seen.
