8 Day Kenya Nature Trails (JenK1)

Nairobi, Tree Hotel, Samburu, Lake Nakuru, Masai Mara.

Day 1: Nairobi
Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport - Nairobi, you will be welcomed by our Safari representative and assisted for your transfer to your hotel in Nairobi. Rest of the day at leisure.

Accommodation: Hotel Intercontinental. City hotel with en-suite bathrooms, swimming pool, bar & restaurant.

Day 2 - Treehotel
Drive north through the banana, pineapple, coffee and tea plantations to arrive at your base hotel - Outspan Hotel, in time for lunch. Transfer in the lodge vehicle to your overnight game viewing treehotel, to watch wildlife drinking at the floodlit waterhole.

Distance: 195 km
Accommodation: Serena Mountain Lodge, 'tree hotel' built on the slopes of Mount Kenya, en-suite rooms with veranda overlooking a waterhole, bar & restaurant.

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Included.

Day 3 - Samburu
Return to the base hotel after breakfast. Drive to Kenya's rugged northeastern region, arriving at your lodge around noon. Afternoon game drive to see Grevy's zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, elephant and other game.

Distance: 200km
Accommodation: Sarova Shaba Lodge, river facing thatched chalets with en-suite bathroom, swimming pool, bar & open-air restaurant.

Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Included.

Day 4 - Samburu
After breakfast depart for a morning and afternoon game drive to explore this arid wilderness and photograph its teeming wildlife.

Accommodation: Sarova Shaba Lodge

Day 5 - Lake Nakuru
Drive via Nyaururu Falls down the eastern escarpment of the magnificent Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park best known for its flamingos. It is a home to many animals including waterbuck, leopards and Rothschild giraffe. The park is also a sanctuary for black rhinos. Afternoon game drive.

Distance: 400km
Accommodation: Lion Hill Lodge, situated on a rocky hillside with views of Lake Nakuru, semi-detached chalets with en-suite bathrooms, bar & restaurant.

Day 6 - Masai Mara
After breakfast traverse the Rift Valley and ascend its western rim into the Masai land. Red-clad with spear, Masai warriors tend their herds of cattle among the wildlife, admirably unmoved by the presence of large predators. You find the Masai giraffe in this park. Afternoon game drive in the Mara, famous for the Wildebeest and Zebra migration and its abundance of wildlife.

Distance: 320km
Accommodation: Siana Springs Intrepids Camp, Situated at the base of the Ngama Hills, on the eastern edge of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, luxury tented camp with en-suite bathrooms, swimming pool, bar & restaurant.

Day 7 - Masai Mara
Morning and afternoon game drives in this spectacular game reserve, all with superb photographic opportunities. Blessed with a permanent water supply, Masai Mara has a permanent population of plain,s game. The "big five" - elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and rhino are quite common. Today you may opt for an early morning balloon excursion to experience the panoramic Mara from a birds-eye view (optional and not included in the price).

Day 8 - Depart
Depart for Nairobi to catch your onward flight.

Accommodation is on full board basis on safari and bed and breakfast in Nairobi. Transport in 8-seater minibuses, game drives, park entrance fees for clients, drivers and vehicles. Bottled water on road safaris in the vehicle. Children under 7 years of age are not allowed at any tree hotel.

Excluded from Price

Beverages, tips, All domestic and international flights, airport taxes and visas. Items of personal nature such as laundry, telephone calls, faxes and anything that is not mentioned on the above itinerary.

Pre & Post Accommodation:

Extra accommodation before or after the tour can be booked.

Departure:

You'll be met at Nairobi Airport by a representative and transferred to your accommodation.

Transport:

All of our adventure vehicles are custom built to suit the African terrain. Minibus with maximum 8 passengers. The interior is spacious with forward facing seating. There is ample space inside the vehicle to store your daypack.

Accommodation:

Our accommodation in lodges and luxurious tented camps are clean and comfortable of a mid range standard.

Spending money:

Clients are advised to bring enough money to cover the purchase of curios, and additional entertainment. US Dollars, Pound Sterling and South African Rand (ZAR) are the most practical and convenient currencies. There are moneychangers available.

Meals:

All meals are organized by the guide and are prepared by him/her with the help of the group (This is on participation safaris). Meals are nutritious and filling, drawing on fresh local produce where possible. We buy groceries along the way, so our clients have a say in what type of meals are eaten. Please advise us of any special dietary requirements in advance.

First Aid:

Our guides are trained in basic first aid and the vehicle is equipped with a comprehensive medical aid kit. Preventative Malaria medication should be taken before the trip and throughout its duration, although it is advisable to consult a doctor prior to departure.

Luggage:

Maximum baggage allowance: 12 kg. Our Safaris stipulate this luggage allowance, as an overloaded vehicle is a danger to both the clients and the guide. This does not include photographic equipment and a small daypack. Please bring a backpack or soft barrel bag, not a suitcase. Don't bring too much clothing, as there are washing opportunities along the way. Please adhere to the allowance specified as space for luggage is limited.

Insurance:

It is compulsory for all travelers to have insurance covering their personal requirements, medical expenses and personal possessions. This is to be arranged before leaving home country. Our Safaris has comprehensive public liability insurance.

Participation:

This tour does not call for any participation. Our crew may occasionally ask you for assistance, but porterage of 2 bags per client is included. It is vital that travelers have a positive attitude towards participation and joining in is what turns a great trip into an unforgettable journey.

Visas:

The onus is on the client to organize all visas required for clients to visit Kenya.

Rubbish:

All litter including cigarette buts must be thrown into dustbins provided. Not even fruit peals or pips may be thrown anyplace other than the dustbin.
