Fishing Trips In Lake Victoria

Nam Lolwe (local name for Lake Victoria) is famous for its fishing. There are lots of Tilapia (Ngenge in Luo; local language), a sweet tasting local favourite dish caught along the shores.

One the same tone, the real deal with the local is the Nile Perch (Local name is Mbuta), the world’s largest freshwater fish

The Mbuta (as locally known) reaches massive proportions and is a formidable fighting opponent. The current record is a 90kg trophy for the lake.

The local English speaking fishermen, who know the area well will take you on a fishing trip in traditional canoes powered by an outboard engine or modem. Chances of catching a record breaking Nile Perch, 20-60kg should be well within reach.
