Camping In Naivasha - Bottom Of The Great Rift Valley

Camping in Naivasha - bottom of the Great Rift Valley
browse (1 / 3)

Camping in Naivasha at the bottom of the Great Rift Valley will enlighten one about the nature of the earth that is taken for granted every day. 20 million years ago, tectonic forces combined to produce what is known today as the Great Rift Valley. Massive plains of land were collapsed to cause a valley varying in depth in Kenya from 198 meters to 1829 meters, with the widest girth being 10 kilometers. On either side of this cosmic crumpling, great escarpments arose, causing the valley to be hugged by monolithic giants with staggering teeth that bite into the sky.

Raised lakes are found in this massive valley, with abundant wildlife and lush forests. Lake Naivasha is found where the Great Rift Valley enters Kenya: this is the highest and most beautiful of the mountain lakes. The beauty if of biblical proportions, with papyrus clumps lining the shores, over 400 species of birds and the large population of hippos that laze and scrunch about. The unspoiled and tranquil land is the ideal platform for camping in Naivasha at the bottom of the Great Rift Valley, either on the campsites of the southern shore of Lake Naivasha or higher up on the slopes of the mountains.

Visitors are delighted to find the Kakagema Forest nearby when camping in Naivasha at the bottom of the Great Rift Valley: red tailed monkeys and six other species of primates scoot about the branches, along with the 27 species of snake that inhabit the area. Hiking under the roof of the forest will take you past more than just mossy rocks - you are transported to a new dimension where the colors are brighter and the sounds of nature buzz in your ears - a green wilderness where you often have to keep your eyes peeled to sight animals. Butterflies arise in great multitutes: a cloud of colors that testifies the beauty of the natural world.

Camping in Naivasha at the bottom of the Great Rift Valley will bring you closer to Hells Gate National Park, with it's natural steaming geysers and a well-fitted campsite. Wide expanses open out before your eyes as you explore the park. Vultures, verreauxs eagles, augur buzzards and thousands of swifts inhabit the area, while fish eagles and kingfishers dart about the metalic surface of the lake, making swooping, spectacular kills. Game viewing in Hell's Gate gives you a glimpse of some of natures fine-tuned predators and inconspicuous prey, such as hyrax, buffalo, giraffe, eland, hartebeest, lion and leopard. Take a picnic lunch in the park and take a boat ride to Crescent Island. In Mount Longonot National Park, activities include hiking, biking and rock climbing.
